Walkman vs. iPod

Remember the Walkman? The article linked at the end of this post has a very interesting look at how far our portable music options have changed over the last 30 years.

A British 13-year-old swapped his iPod for a Walkman for one week.

It's hard to believe the Walkman is 30 years old. I'm only 29 but I can remember when the Sony Discman was the coolest thing to have. That was 1993 for me. It was an early Discman that didn't have anti-skip technology so the smallest bump would cause the CD to skip. Fast forward to now and look at how MP3 players are the only way to go for portable audio. Some that are smaller than a pack of gum and can hold thousands upon thousands of songs, a whole lot more than a cassette tape or a CD.

I had the coolest Walkman ever. It was yellow and water resistant and a cassette player. It didn't have the ear muff style head phones it was the kind that fit inside the ears. Loved it. Now 25 years later my family doesn't even own a cassette player, 8 track, or record player but we do own 1 iPod and 2 Zunes. As far as portable audio player I like the Zune better, not as many bells and whistles as the iPod but a mp3 player I'll buy another.
