Recent AVG 8.5 popups
For those of us who currently have the personal edition of AVG 8.5 installed as our anti-virus program, you have most likely noticed AVG popup notifications strongly suggesting that one must upgrade to the paid-for version of AVG in order to maintain anti-virus protection. This is not the case. Though AVG certainly does make a good anti-virus product -- and one that is worth purchasing, in my opinion -- they do still offer their free personal edition, available for download here.
If, however, you would like to try something different that does not -- at least at this point -- produce such popups whenever a new version is released, you might give Microsoft's free Security Essentials anti-virus and anti-spyware software a try. Available for download here. If you go this route, make sure to uninstall any other anti-virus software from your system.
